Studying English vowels is like drinking a tall cold glass of cyanide. I refer you to here, here, and here, where the charts seem to make sense, until you check out the actual International Phonetic Alphabet, where the previous charts cease to make (any fucking) sense.

Oh, good lord. From a language that has a number of set sounds, to English vowels...
If you show them the "ghoti"="fish" pronunciation thing, I would laugh my ass off.
I did that weeks ago, to an adult class AND a kid's class, if I remember right :D
